SM/OWLS/IOLS

Background:

Scoutmaster specific position training is required training for any Scouter who is registered as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster if you wish to be considered position trained, this is part one of being considered positioned trained.

Outdoor Webelos Leader Skills (OWLS) is required training for any Webelos Den Leader or Assistant Den Leader to be able to take a Webelos Den on an outdoor over camping event.

Individual Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS-formerly ITOLS) is the second part in order to be considered positioned trained as a ScoutMaster or Assistant Scoutmater and to be able to wear the “TRAINED” tab on your left sleeve of the Class A uniform.

Here’s how you get trained:

SM/ASM specific position training- you have two choices, either attend a formal class which is approximately 3 hours long or you can take the on line training via my.scouting.org

The next formal classroom training event is scheduled for August 3, 2018 at Camp Ben Hawkins near Byron Ga. Cost is $10, starts 6pm-ends 9pm. You’ll need as a minimum the following literature, Troop Leader Guide Book, Volumes I/II and guide to Safe Scouting. Other helpful literature is Guide to Advancement, Troop Program Helps. This Classroom training will be held in conjunction with OWLS/IOLS.

OWLS/IOLS will be conducted August 4-5, 2018. The training begins 8am Saturday August 4, you are required to camp the evening of August 4 and the training concludes August 5 by 4pm. Cost is $30.

Please register through the CGC service center. If you have any type of allergies please inform the Scout office at time of registration. Required documents include: Completion of SM specific training if done on line or through another source. All participants must have a current BSA physical 2014 printing more than 1 year old, parts A/B completed.
